The ability to turn your body freely, both on the back swing and forward swing, is the direct result of your golf posture. Good posture will help you to maintain your levels and sets your swing plane, leading more powerful action with consistent ball striking.

There must be enough room between the chest and the chin to allow free movement of the shoulders underneath the chin on the back swing and follow through without causing the body to move up or down.

Body Angles

Posture with correct body angles Keys to Good Posture:
  • Tilt forward from the hips, pushing your rear back.
  • Flex knees slightly
  • Weight on the balls of feet
  • Arms hang relaxed below shoulders
  • Chin up, head not dropped.

1) Stand tall and place a club down the back with your head and tailbone touching the shaft. Tilt forward from the hips ensuring the shaft keeps touching these points. 2) Flex your knees slightly to ease the tension in your hamstrings. The weight should be on the balls of your feet

This drill helps to feel the position of the lower back. Set your golf posture and place the back of your hands on the small of your back. Push your pelvis back and push in slightly with the hands.

Different Clubs

Your spine angle will change when using different clubs. You should tilt forward from the hips more when using shorter irons (left), and stand taller when using longer clubs (right).

A correct posture can not only help improve your game but it can also help avoid back ache, elbow ache and many other injuries caused by poor posture at set up.
